Doulas create and hold essential space for the mother.
By definition, a doula provides non-medical physical and emotional support, education, and care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. My role as your doula is to provide exactly what you need in each phase of your pregnancy. I will advocate for you, be intuitive of your needs, respectful of your preferences, and tuned into your individual needs during your pregnancy and birthing process. Pregnancy and birth is unique to every woman, so getting to know you thoroughly and specifically is important. During our prenatal appointments, we will discuss your needs and what you can expect over the span of your pregnancy. I will customize my doula services to you and your family’s specific needs. With me, you make the rules and set the tone for the experience you’re looking for.
Why Choose a Doula?
Multiple studies have shown that the continuous one-on-one support of a doula can decrease labor duration, reduce the use of pain medication, reduce the occurrence of cesarean sections, and lead to greater feelings of satisfaction with the birthing experience (Cochrane, 2013). It is this comfort and reassurance that promotes a calm and peaceful atmosphere—which allows you to be present in every moment, enjoy the process and focus on yourself and the arrival of your new baby. A doula strives to work in tandem with your medical birthing team and partner towards your birth goals (never as a replacement or substitution for other care providers) while also acting as a devoted advocate for the birthing person.
Labor and Birth
While the process of labor and childbirth can be physically and emotionally intense, it should also be one of the most positive and memorable experiences in life. I am here to ease the physical discomfort, and ensure your voice is heard. Healthy pregnancies and positive birth experiences begin when families are empowered to choose what’s right for them. Doulas can help you birth your baby at home, at birthing centers, in hospitals, with or without pain medication — even if you have a C-section a doula can help wherever or however you choose to have your baby. It’s your baby, your body, and your birth.
The Fourth Trimester
Postpartum support can come in many forms, and is unique to each family. It can include sibling care, light housework, meal prepping/grabbing groceries, or breastfeeding support. Sometimes, it's as simple as having someone present. I will provide relaxation support to help new mothers with any physical, mental, and emotional challenges they may experience. A postpartum doula is not meant to be a replacement for family, friends or proper medical care, but intended as supplemental support for everyone.
